Walking Festival Ameixial

The first of the walking festivals of Algarve! It takes place every year on the last weekend of April, with the aim of promoting hiking in the parish of Ameixial, revealing the Algarve hills and their natural, cultural and human heritage.
It brings together a wide audience with different interests, but with one thing in common: walking!
So, in parallel with the more traditional walks, there will be thematic walks related to local history and cultural heritage, such as the Escrita do Sudoeste, or nature-related themes, such as birdwatching and botanic, scientific, and photographic walks, as well as other complementary activities.
It distinguishes itself by involving the local community in the scheduled activities, developing heritage preservation actions and generating an important direct economic return for the area.
The Festival is inspired by the theme of Escrita do Sudoeste, a 2,500-year-old script with important remains in this area.
Organization
The Ameixial Hiking Festival had its first edition in 2012, organized by a team inspired to introduce the practice of hiking in nature to the Algarve hinterland.
Since 2016, the event has been promoted and co-organized by Cooperativa QRER, in collaboration with Proactivetur and Projecto Estela.
It also has the partnership of a group of entities that provide direct support to the organization in different areas, which contribute to its quality.
