Territorial Impact
The AWS initiative contributes directly to the local economy, namely through the services provided in the areas of tourist entertainment, catering and accommodation. It also makes it possible to get to know the reality of the Algarve's low-density territories in four different municipalities, which year after year face the progressive effects of an aging population, depopulation and desertification, making it increasingly challenging to attract initiatives, investment and people to these territories.
Commitment to environmental and social sustainability.
The various festivals, as well as the promotion of the AWS brand, develop efforts and synergies within the organization of events in order to use good sustainability practices, both environmental and social, namely through compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, in particular:
Examples of these good practices:
Production of utilitarian and durable materials and merchandising.
Concern about reducing the carbon footprint by promoting collective and shared means of transport.
Development of reforestation actions.
Educational and pedagogical activities aimed at children and local communities.
Involving the local community in festival activities.
Direct support for local economies in the areas covered by the festivals.
Actions to restore local heritage (e.g., ancestral haystacks, fountain cleaning)
Artistic production activities in the area, involving local people.
