Monchique
Walking Festival

Next Edition:

29 of november to 1 of december 2024

The Monchique Walking Festival is a celebration of water.

Water runs through Serra de Monchique's veins. Here, on the sacred mountain, water is also sustenance for human life and for this very special ecosystem. Here, where the freshness of the streams also brings nourishment to our soul and well-being. We make this festival a walk for contemplation and discovery of this rich interior and the interior of each one of us.

The festival includes various activities, such as sports walks, themed and cultural walks, family and children's activities, workshops, ateliers, theatre, yoga and astronomical observation.

70% is the percentage of water in our bodies.

71% is the percentage of the Earth's surface that is covered by liquid water.

14 million tonnes is the estimated amount of plastic at the ocean and sea depths. Water is where life began and all organisms living on the planet need water. Water is a vital necessity. It is a habitat. It is a resource. It's a point of balance in the ecosystem. It is a mode of transport and leisure. It is a source of production, connection, and movement. Water is a network, an origin. It's a resource that we enjoy and use every day.

Let's make a conscious mental list of the reasons for looking after and preserving this natural resource. We want to continue to enjoy water in its many forms, whether essential, therapeutic, or organizational.

With this Walking Festival we want to promote water as a resource and leave our call for its preservation.

Organization
