Santa Bárbara de Nexe Walking Festival

First Edition:

7 to 9 of february 2025

The WFSBN Walking Festival Sta. Bárbara de Nexe is inspired by the beautiful landscapes and rich popular culture of the parish of Santa Bárbara de Nexe, located in the interior of the municipality of Faro, in the heart of the ‘Algarve barrocal’.

The festival's image represents the territory's strong cultural imprint, embodied in the music, where the accordion stands out, and in popular poetry, but also in the colour of the land that has always served as food and subsistence for the men and women who settled here and started families hundreds of years ago. The abundance of stone also ensured this subsistence in times when purely manual work demanded that the skills and creativity of the trades be refined.

It is also the stones that still reveal old trails travelled hundreds and hundreds of years ago, when electricity was still a dream, and the longest distances were travelled with the help of animals.

Many of these memories and skills are still alive in this territory, and it is in honor of this tangible and intangible heritage that this festival was born.

Organization

Organized by the Junta de Freguesia de Santa Bárbara de Nexe, in the interior of the municipality of Faro, it focuses on the theme of popular culture.
